How to make a duplicate key in 15 minutes
Sometimes it is simply catastrophically necessary to make a spare key just in case of a fire. It is not possible to simply make a copy of the original; this will require specialized equipment. But what if you need a copy to open the lock one time? I will show you an incredibly simple way to make a duplicate in 10-15 minutes at home without any special machines or devices.
Will need
- Disposable lighter.
- Narrow tape.
- Scissors.
- A piece of tin from a tin can or paint can.
- Pliers.
Making a duplicate key from a piece of tin
This method is suitable for flat keys. Usually their teeth are asymmetrical and adjacent to one of the sides. Light a lighter and smoke this side. It is better to hold the key itself with pliers or simply with a cloth wound several times. The main thing is not to get burned.
You need to smoke the entire surface of the working area.
Next, let the key cool. Be sure to come completely to room temperature. Then we cut off a piece of narrow tape and glue it to the surface where the soot has formed. Smooth the top with your finger.
We carefully tear off the tape and see that the imprint of the key remains quite clearly on its sticky surface.
Then we take a flat piece of tin from any can and glue a strip of tape with a print on top.
Take scissors and cut out the outline of the print.
Carefully cut out each tooth. The work is not very painstaking, as it might seem at first glance.
Anyway, when cutting out the key, the thin tin became wrinkled. To fix this, we straighten it with pliers.
Homemade key is ready! Take the lock and carefully insert the key into it. There may be some minor difficulties here. We pull the duplicate up and down, inserting it deeper and deeper.
And we also turn it very carefully. And the lock opens.
I think this trick can be useful in life. But don’t even think about opening other people’s locks, as this is a criminal offence.
