How to make an electric scooter driven by a car generator
An ordinary car generator can be converted into a BLDC motor with sufficient power to propel an electric scooter. A pair of 12V car batteries is used as a power source for such a drive. Thus, the cost of making a homemade electric scooter is several times lower than buying a factory one.
The existing electric generator needs to be converted into a BLDC motor. To do this, the diode bridge is removed and the voltage regulator is turned off.
The brushes are screwed back on.
The throttle handle is connected to the controller according to its diagram.
After this, the wires from the controller are connected to the ends of the motor windings.
The ends of the windings are twisted together. Power wires are also laid to the brushes to excite the motor armature.
Then the controller is supplied with power from two car batteries connected in series. After this, the electrical part of the scooter is checked for functionality.
The next step is to manufacture the scooter frame or modify an existing factory frame to install a motor. The frame is a foot platform welded from a profile pipe with a plywood platform. A glass with a fork, steering wheel and wheel is welded to it in front. A wheel with a large sprocket on a ratchet is installed on the platform at the back. The presence of the latter will allow the scooter to roll after the engine speed is reduced.
At the rear of the platform, a corner for mounting the engine is welded.
A small sprocket is installed on the motor shaft, and it is secured in such a way as to connect it with a chain to the sprocket on the wheel.
A basket is made from a profile pipe and a corner for installing 2 batteries.
It is welded over the engine and wheel. Thus, it will be possible to better distribute the weight and protect the rotating parts of the drive from accidental contact with the feet.
Then all that remains is to install the controller under the basket, put the batteries on top and put the throttle on the steering wheel.
A homemade electric scooter with an engine converted from a generator has good traction and develops more than acceptable speed, so it can be used not only for recreational riding, but also as a means of transportation. To increase its comfort, you can additionally install a shock absorption system.
