Laying tiles on walls and floors
Laying tiles is preceded by a number of preparatory processes. The initial stage is the purchase of the necessary materials. Next, you need to prepare the surface by leveling the walls with plaster and then sanding. Upon completion of the work, it is necessary to prime a completely flat surface.
Then an adhesive solution is prepared, during the preparation of which the proportions of water and glue must be correctly observed. The mixture is prepared using a technical mixer and gradually adding dry glue. If you prepare glue that is too thin, it will float down the wall, and if the consistency is too thick, it will be impossible to distribute evenly over the wall.
Laying tiles starts from bottom to top. The first row of tiles is laid above the floor using a wooden strip, the horizontal of which is leveled. In order for each subsequent row to be horizontally level, it is necessary to nail the vertical strips into the corners, having previously leveled them using a plumb line. Next, nails are hammered into the slats, and a strong nylon thread is pulled between them. Using this thread, the horizontal layout of the next rows is controlled.
The adhesive is applied to the tiles using a notched trowel. Next, the tile with glue is lightly pressed against the wall, maintaining a gap thickness of 2-4 mm. The use of dividing crosses simplifies control over the gaps, the purpose of which is to prevent the tiles from coming off during thermal expansion. To ensure that the tile laying is perfectly level, you must use a level in your work.
To cut the tiles you will need a tile cutter. It will be quite difficult for an inexperienced person to work with a tile cutter. Therefore, to simplify the task, you can use a grinder or pliers. It is recommended to hide tiles with a cut edge under furniture or fittings.
It is recommended to start laying tiles on the floor from the far corner towards the door, marking the floor using a thread. The evenness of the layout is controlled by the level. After completing the installation work, you need to clean the tile surface from particles of adhesive solution and grout the joints. For this case, a rubber spatula is needed. When choosing a grout, it is better not to skimp on the material, because the appearance of the installation as a whole will depend on the quality of the grout material. Its color does not need to be tied to the tone of the tile, but this is a matter of taste.
