Flower girl made from an old tire
Disused old car tires are sometimes used to protect seedlings of trees, bushes or flowers. At the same time, they don’t look very presentable. But if you change their external shape, turn them inside out, because the rubber is smooth inside, and paint them in bright colors, everything becomes much more interesting and fun.
For this task, you will mainly need a creative approach, practical ingenuity, a desire to work with your hands and feet, as well as the simplest materials and tools:
Winter tires are considered the most pliable and therefore easiest to work with, especially if they are also fairly worn out. You can make the simplest flowerpot by carefully and evenly removing one bead ring and turning the tire inside out.
But the product will look more attractive and more natural if we cut out petals or leaves of different sizes on one side surface of it, which are best applied to the sidewall of the tire with chalk in advance.
We place the tire on a rough base (concrete, crushed stone, etc.) so that it slips less, and along the lines of the previously applied pattern, we begin to sequentially cut the side surface of the tire until we go around it all in a circle and return to the original disposition.
Since rubber during the cutting process creates significant resistance to the metal blade of a knife, even a very sharp one, it must be constantly and often lubricated with some kind of oil or dipped in a soap solution poured into a suitable container and located nearby.
The next stage is turning the tire inside out, which, along with remarkable physical strength, will require understanding and comprehension of its principle. A “horn” made of wood or metal will help us in this matter, with which we grab the cut edge of the tire and press the other end into the ground.
The main thing here is to try to turn the edge in the opposite direction, at least on a small section of the tire. Further, the process will go easier according to the domino principle: each section will carry the next one along with it.
An inverted tire has a smoother surface, and the “petals”, under the influence of elastic forces in the rubber, straighten out like a flower. If the surface of the resulting flowerpot is carefully sanded, and even painted in different colors that are in harmony with the plants that will be placed in it, it will turn out very beautiful and natural.
