DIY night vision device from a smartphone
Hello friends! This not complicated night vision device is really easy to make and anyone can do it. And now I will tell you how to make it. Such a device can see even in complete darkness, and can also take photos or record videos. This device can be assembled in an hour or two; no special skills are required.
Materials you will need:
- A 12V battery or accumulator (I used 3 4V batteries from a flashlight, connecting them in series).
- Wires for installation.
- Switch.
- Hot melt adhesive.
- Infrared LEDs 5 pieces. (can be taken from broken TV remotes).
- Cardboard box.
- Black paint.
- Insulating tape.
Making a simple night vision device
Let's begin. I open and disassemble the cardboard box and make markings on the cardboard: cut 2 rectangles 22.5 cm x 5 cm with a knife, bend each of them 90 degrees, 15 cm from the edge. I ended up with two L-shaped pieces, which I glued together.
I cut and paste the inner partition one cm from the edge, while on one side the partition has a gap of 2 cm.
From the outside, the gap is covered with a lid (glued) made of cardboard measuring 2 cm x 7.5 cm.
A second partition is cut out of cardboard, completely corresponding to the internal dimensions of the case. In this partition, I cut out a rectangle of 4 cm x 3 cm on the side, and in the middle I cut a slot of 0.5 cm x 4 cm.
I cut a round hole on the side of the case for the switch. I paint all the parts with black paint on all sides.
I connect the batteries in series and make a tap for the switch.
I glue the batteries into the case. I solder and screw the switch. I bring out two wires to power the backlight. When the switch is on, they should receive 12 V, when off, the voltage is zero.
I solder infrared ones from old faulty TV remotes LEDs. Every Light-emitting diode I connect through a 270 Ohm resistor and connect them all in parallel.
And I bring out a short wire from them to supply power. I connect the backlight to the backlight power output. I insulate it with electrical tape and insert the backlight into the housing, tuck the wires so that they don’t stick out.
I close the lid. All is ready.
To check the night video device in operation, we take a regular smartphone and insert it from the back under the lid into the inside of the device, on the other side I secure it with an elastic band.
Now you can check its operation in the dark.

I recommend assembling such a device with children, the process is not complicated, and the children are delighted. Good luck with your assembly and good mood!
