Life hack for gardeners: Plant cucumbers under film and forget about watering for the whole season
Caring for garden beds is not easy work. Therefore, to make growing as easy as possible, you need to use different agricultural techniques. For example, it is possible to plant cucumbers under a film, which will allow you to not water them at all, but still get healthy, large plants that produce a large harvest.
What you will need:
- cucumber seeds;
- shovel;
- black dense polyethylene film;
- water.
The process of planting and growing cucumbers under film without watering
It is necessary to mark the bed for cucumbers, then dig a trench around it. The excavated soil is piled around the perimeter.
Then the trench is generously filled with water.
A bucket of boiling water is poured onto the ridge of the bed. This will disinfect the soil and destroy the pests living there.
Thick, opaque black polyethylene film is laid on the bed and trenches.
Then the hole is filled around the circumference with the previously selected soil. After this it is compacted.
After 2-3 days, you need to pierce the film with a twig in the places where the cucumbers are planted in a checkerboard pattern, pressing holes in the soil. Seeds are planted in them. When the cucumbers sprout, you need to grab the leaves of the sprouts with your fingers and pull them out.
Due to the film, the spilled moisture during planting will evaporate and condense in a circle, watering the roots. This way it can last for a very long time. During rains, water will collect on the film and flow into the holes in the plants. In case of abnormal drought, if it is clear that the cucumbers are drying out, you can literally pour 2 syringes of water under the root to support it until precipitation occurs.
