How can you cut glass if you don’t have a glass cutter?
If you need to cut glass, for example, to repair a broken window, and you don’t have a glass cutter in stock, you don’t have to buy one. For a one-time job, you can save money and use a fragment of a ceramic spark plug insulator. It is so hard that it leaves a scratch no worse than a new, not yet worn glass cutter.
What you will need:
- Spark plug;
- hammer;
- ruler.
The process of cutting glass without a glass cutter using a spark plug
To cut glass you need to get a piece of spark plug insulator. It can be in absolutely any condition, its performance does not matter. It is enough to hit the insulator with a hammer and it will break into pieces. You should choose a fragment of a convenient size with a sharp edge.
The resulting fragment, held between the fingers, causes a scratch on the glass under the ruler. You need to lead from edge to edge in the direction towards you.
Then a rod is placed under the scratch, and a sheet of glass breaks along it.
This shard can be used to cut both thin window glass and thicker glass (4.5 mm, and sometimes more).
