So, for work you will need:
- metal base-frame for the cabochon. Such bases are usually sold in art and craft stores, where, in addition to the frame itself, you can purchase all the accompanying accessories;
- white acrylic paint (titanium white). Will be used to prime the interior surface;
- images printed on office paper or special decoupage cards;
- transparent epoxy resin sticker.Using such a self-adhesive coating in your work will greatly simplify the process of making a pendant. Typically, epoxy resin is used to fill molds and give them the effect of a glass coating, the work with which requires certain skills. It is worth saying that with the help of this material you can create very unusual products, using it independently, giving shape, and as a fill. But in this tutorial we will use a ready-made epoxy resin sticker;
- water-based PVA glue;
- glue for decoupage;
- brush with soft bristles;
- accessories for jewelry (chain, connecting rings, clasp, bail);
- scissors.
Progress:
1. Using a thin brush, prime the inside of the frame with white acrylic paint. Priming the surface is a mandatory step in any type of decoupage, since the design, if applied to an unprepared dark background, may lose its brightness and clarity. Set the frame aside until completely dry.
2. Meanwhile, prepare the image to be transferred to the base. Cut the selected motif, which can be printed on a printer, to the size of the inner diameter of the frame. Typically, the standard frame size for a cabochon is 18x25 millimeters.
3. Then you should cover the image with decoupage glue on both sides. Paper impregnated with varnish will be stronger and will not tear when applied to the base, and the design will retain its brightness. Leave the image for a while.
4. When the white acrylic paint and the images are completely dry, you can move on to transferring the drawing into a frame. Using a brush, apply PVA glue to the cabochon base and to the back of the image.After about a minute, when the glue has absorbed a little, carefully lift the design with a brush and place it in the center of the frame, aligning it with your fingers. Press the design from the center to the edges so that excess glue and air bubbles come to the surface.
Remove excess glue with a dry brush. Now you need to leave the pendant for a while to dry.
5. Now you can begin the final stage: applying a clear coat. Carefully remove the sticker from the paper backing and apply it to the image, at the same time leveling the coating. Press it firmly against the base.
6. Attach a bail into which the chain is threaded and a clasp to the finished pendant.
An exquisite pendant with a romantic design is ready!
