Nippers from broken pliers
Surely in your garage, if you search hard, you can find broken pliers that are high time to throw away. This master class is precisely about the fact that you don’t need to do this, but you need to turn an unnecessary little thing into a very useful tool, which is 100% likely to be useful to a mechanic, a carpenter, or an auto mechanic.
I'll show you how to make excellent wire cutters out of rusty and broken pliers. With the help of which you can easily bite through metal and more, but more on that below.
Making wire cutters from old and broken pliers
Let's cut off the sponges, since they will no longer be needed. Mark the cutting line with a marker.
Using a grinder we cut off the lips. We cut as smoothly as possible. It's okay if some rough spots remain.
We change the disc on the grinder and remove irregularities by grinding.
Next, we change the disc to a polishing disc and polish the entire surface of the instrument until it shines, while removing all the rust.
The result was a brilliant blank for future wire cutters.
The pliers used to have nippers on the sides, but as you can see, they have all become unusable.
We update the grooves with a grinder cutting disc.In this case, you must initially align both grooves on both sides, moving the tool handles apart.
The cutters are now functional and larger than they were originally. Therefore, it is now possible to bite through metal rods of larger diameter.
We could stop here, but let's add functionality.
Mark the holes in a straight line perpendicular to the grooves of the wire cutters. Mark the points with a marker.
Spreading the handles of the wire cutters apart, drill two holes in both halves.
We will cut the hole at the top with a grinder, but not at the bottom.
Now we have a more interesting and functional tool.
The handles can be made using rubber tubes, but I didn’t have any on hand, so I took a hot glue gun and poured it on the outside of the handles.
Looks a little uneven.
Wire cutter test
We test the wire cutters on steel wire. We're trying to get something to eat.
Everything is fine - have a snack, be healthy!
And here is a trick where you can use such a tool. They hold nails very well when driving, even better than regular pliers. And I'm not exaggerating one bit.
And if necessary, these nails can be easily eaten.
These incredibly useful wire cutters can be easily made from an unnecessary thing that most people would just throw in the trash.
But in general, such wire cutters can be made not only from pliers, but also from other broken tools.
Please note that there is a lot of work with an angle grinder, and it is an incredibly dangerous tool that must be handled with extreme caution. Keep this in mind and don't rush. Do not try to neglect safety requirements - it is fraught!
