8 ways to quickly sharpen scissors
Eight different ways to quickly and easily sharpen your scissors without having any special tools or equipment. In fact, we will use available items that will help the scissors regain their former sharpness and cut as before.
1. Sharpen scissors using a paper clip
Take a regular metal paper clip. The larger its size, the better.
The sharpening technology is as follows. Use scissors to pinch the tip of the paperclip.
And, slightly squeezing the knives of the scissors, draw a paper clip until the knives intersect.
Next, remove the paper clip. We repeat these steps 30-40 times. Corresponding notches appear on the paper clip.
2. Use the battery case
For sharpening, you can use a AA battery, but always in a metal casing.
We do all the sharpening steps in the same way as in the example with a paper clip. Movements should be made from the tip of the scissors to the intersection.
3. Using sandpaper
In this example we will use sandpaper. The smaller its grain size, the better. It’s better to take “zero”. Everything is very simple here. Cut it into thin strips. At this time, sharpening of the blades occurs.Don’t forget to turn the paper over to the other side so that the knives are sharpened evenly, or simply fold it in half.
After this, cut the napkin to smooth the surface.
4. Glass sharpens scissors
Any glass is considered a very hard material. We take a glass bottle and sharpen the blade on its neck. There should be notches on the bottle.
Be careful as the glass will crumble.
5. Use foil
We roll up regular food foil into 4-8 layers. Just like in the example with sandpaper, cut the foil into thin strips.
40-50 cuts should be enough.
6. Using a screwdriver
Take any screwdriver and press it into a hard surface. We clamp the screwdriver shaft with the tips of the scissors and, with a little force, move the scissors apart. We repeat the operation 30-40 times.
7. Sharpen with a file
We clamp the scissors in a vice in an open position to the maximum.
Using a file, we pass along the cutting edge from the middle to the tip.
We sharpen each side separately. Instead of a needle file, you can use a whetstone.
8. Cutting metal sponge
You can also sharpen scissors by simply cutting a metal dishwashing sponge.
After sharpening the scissors, be sure to remove wear products: metal shavings. It would be a good idea to lubricate the blades.
