A way to lubricate the cable without removing it
This article will be useful to lovers of two-wheeled transport. An eternal problem is sticking of clutch, gas, and brake cables. They are not cheap, and disassembling them for maintenance is quite a quest. We will lubricate and develop the cable without removing it from the motorcycle/bicycle or disassembling it. The method is quite simple and suitable for everyone. In addition, it does not take much time and does not require special tools. You can find everything you need in your garage. As a last resort, a hardware store or market can help you.
Will be needed
For work we will need:
- A piece of hose.
- Metal clamp.
- Pliers.
- Screwdriver.
- Liquid key.
Procedure
Take the hose and cut a piece of the required length. We took the transparent one for convenience. This will show when the liquid key goes into the cable housing.
We put a piece of hose on the upper end of the cable.
Then we crimp it with a clamp using a screwdriver.
In general, the main structure is ready.
Pour liquid key into the hose from above. There is a wide variety of them, you can choose any one in the car store. When pouring, it is better to use an extension nozzle in the form of a thin tube that fits onto the sprayer, which comes with the bottle. If you pinch the hose around the tube with pliers, some excess pressure will be created inside it. This will speed up the process of fluid entering the cable housing.
We repeat the steps until the liquid being poured comes out from the opposite end of the casing.
The cable can be attached back to the handle where it was installed and worked with it. Or just use pliers to grab the free end and pull it up/down several times.
Then flush it again with liquid key. Repeat the previous steps until the cable operates easily and with minimal effort. The number of repetitions will depend on how long you have not serviced the cable and clamp mechanism before.
Some recommendations
Maintain the cables at the required intervals. Even if it doesn’t jam yet, it’s worth carrying out this procedure sometimes. This problem occurs when moisture gets inside the casing. The metal cable oxidizes and rusts, which increases its friction inside the casing and causes it to seize.
The liquid key is inferior in lubricating properties to special lubricants. After this procedure, you can select liquid lubricant and pour it into the hose. It will be much thicker than liquid key, and the process will take longer. It would be ideal to leave it overnight. But after this the cables will be more resistant to corrosion.
