Convenient folding shelf in the trunk of a car
Anyone can add such a shelf to their car and significantly expand the capacity of their trunk. This thing will definitely be useful for owners of station wagon and hatchback cars.
As you know, the total volume of the rear trunk is measured in liters and is indicated in the passport. But the design of the car itself does not make it possible to fully use it 100%, since if you fill it with small objects, they fall on top of each other, wrinkle, break... And all this is so clumsy, bad and inconvenient. And if you transport food in this way, they will definitely get wrinkled and become unusable.
If you make this very simple shelf, it will allow you to store things in two tiers, then everything will become much simpler and more convenient.
Will need
- Metal grate. If there is no metal one, cut out a solid piece of plywood.
- Folding legs (garage stops). You can also make them yourself from metal tubes.
- A piece of car carpet.
- Two wood hooks.
- 8 nylon zip ties.
Making a folding shelf
The first step is to cut the metal grill to the width of your luggage compartment.
It is also necessary to decide on the height of the future shelf. We take the legs and cut them to the required length with a hacksaw.
Use a thin object to squeeze out the seals from the scraps.
And we install them back into the shortened legs.
In the places where the shelf is attached (in the rear seats), we screw in hooks according to the future height.
On the other side of the grille we attach the legs to nylon ties.
First one, then the second.
We cut out the fabric for wrapping from the carpet. We cut grooves for the legs.
We sew, stitching together.
The stripes indicate the lines where you need to sew. Everything is sewn with a regular needle and regular threads.
Using a sharp knife, cut holes for the hooks.
It would be a good idea to line the hole to prevent the material from fluffing up.
Result
The folded shelf does not interfere in any way.
Unfolded view. It looks as if it has always been here from the factory.
Now you can put things in two rows and nothing will get wrinkled.
Just look how convenient it is.
Simply fantastic order and comfort not only for you, but also for your things!
