The simplest modification of a spark plug that will improve engine performance
A common problem with gasoline engines, especially those converted to gas, is poor ignition. As a result, not all cylinders work. The car loses power and dynamics, and the engine itself begins to stall. You can name at least five main reasons for poor ignition, but spark plugs always come first. Let's consider a way that is safe for the engine to make their spark stronger, while reducing oil contamination of the electrodes.
Using a drill with a diameter of 0.8 mm, you need to drill the side electrode of the spark plug. The hole is made in the center opposite the central electrode. Drilling perfectly straight with a hand-held power tool is not at all easy, so if it is possible to do it on a lathe, then it is better to work on it.
This method will only work if the hole is made exactly above the central electrode. If it is skewed, the performance of the spark plug will not change.
Reworking the spark plugs, even if it turns out to be ineffective, cannot in any way worsen their performance and will not harm the engine.If the holes are positioned correctly, the spark between the electrodes will be more pronounced. This will improve the ignition of the combustible mixture. This method is especially effective for gas-powered cars, since, unlike gasoline, it is reluctant to ignite with a weak spark.
When drilling candles, be sure to try not to put pressure on the drill. Firstly, it is very thin, so it can break. Secondly, it is possible to bend the side electrode, changing the gap, which will worsen the performance of the motor. Ideally, before drilling, measure the gap with a feeler gauge, and then check whether it remains the same and, if necessary, trim it.
This method of upgrading spark plugs really works and is explained by the theory of electrostatics. The spark is strengthened due to the appearance of sharp edges on the electrode, which improves the formation of an electric arc.
Candles with holes have been used for a long time. At one time they were actively installed on old Voskhod and IZH motorcycles. In addition to improving spark strength, they will help combat electrodes with oil, since their use burns out the mixture better. The spark plugs will need to be removed and cleaned less often, which also speaks in favor of drilling.

- metal drill 0.8 mm;
- drill or lathe.
