How to properly drill holes in the wall for pipes
During internal renovation work, it may be necessary to drill holes for heating or sewer pipes. The main tool for this work is an impact drill or hammer drill.
Drilling holes in the wall for pipes
Before you start drilling, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work. Remove anything unnecessary that may interfere with your ability to complete this process. Also make sure that there is no wiring in the place where you plan to drill. To do this, you can use a screwdriver to clear the drilling site. Use personal protective equipment - glasses, gloves, and earplugs.
Make a mark on the wall where exactly you are going to drill the hole.
Initially, you can use a thin drill or auger to make a direction.
Then use a hammer drill with a drill of the required diameter that matches the diameter of the pipe.
If you immediately start drilling with a drill, you can easily go off the mark. Do not allow the drill or hammer to overheat so as not to damage the tool.If you notice that the tool is overheating, wait until it cools down. This often happens when drilling through thick concrete or brick walls. In addition, if the wall thickness is large, then during drilling it is necessary to periodically stick the drill out of the hole during operation so that the plaster and remaining bricks can also come out of the hole. This way the drill will not jam. In addition, while drilling, it is necessary to keep the drill level so as not to move to the side. For example, if you made a retreat from the wall of 10 cm, and went to the side while drilling, then the output on the other side may be already 15 cm from the wall.
Drilling holes in a tiled wall
If you need to drill a hole in a tiled wall, you must use special diamond tile bits. First, you need to drill a hole of the required diameter in the tile, reaching the brickwork or concrete, and then, using a hammer drill and a drill, continue drilling the wall.
While drilling tiles, the drill will heat up, so to cool it, you can place a container of water next to it. If there are also tiles on the back side of the wall, then it is important to carefully measure and determine where the drill will come out. It is best to carefully remove one tile in order not to destroy the masonry.
