A reliable method of storing carrots and beets that has been proven over the years
Properly prepared carrots and beets can last without problems until the next harvest. If they are simply thrown into a heap in a cellar or basement, then the supplies begin to rot. To preserve 100% of your harvest, try this method.
What you will need:
- container with water;
- sponge for washing dishes;
- soda;
- knife;
- packages.
Process of preparation for storage
Carrots and beets need to be sorted. Vegetables with damage or signs of disease must be rejected. They should be used first, or used for homemade preparations. Healthy whole vegetables are washed 2 times with a dish sponge. The first time they are washed in plain water, the second time with the addition of 1 tbsp soda. for 10 l.
Next, the vegetables are completely dried.
The remains of the tops are cut off along with part of the pulp by 5-7 mm, and the tail is cut off in the same way. In this form, they are left to dry so that the cut ends dry out.
Then the vegetables are packaged in bags of 1-1.5 kg. The bags are tied tightly.You need to try to squeeze the air out of them so that there is less of it left. Next, each bag is folded into another bag with the knot down. Everything is tightly tied again.
Carrots or beets prepared in this way can be stored in a cellar or basement. As needed, the bags are transferred one by one to the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator. Where is it convenient to get them from and use them for cooking.
