How to clean a car tank so it looks like new

When pre-selling a car or simply for your own aesthetic pleasure, you may need to wash the yellowed expansion tank. When it is clean, the engine compartment looks more cheerful and fresh, you can immediately see that the mouse has been looked after. A regular brush and water with powder will not bleach it. Let's look at how you can wash the tank to perfection.

What you will need:

• insulating tape;
  
• any detergent;
  
• sulfamic acid (H3NSO3);
  
• Sonax cleaner or similar.

Tank cleaning process

The tank is dismantled. If there are dried stains of dirt or drops of paint on it, they need to be removed to open the plastic.


All pipes on the tank are wrapped with electrical tape.

A little water and detergent are filled into it and it closes. You need to shake the tank to dissolve and wash out the dirty sediment accumulated inside.


The insulating tape and lid of the tank are removed, and it is immersed in a solution of sulfamic acid.

Depending on the concentration, it will remove all yellowness in 12-24 hours, leaving perfectly clean white plastic.


Finally, the tank can be rinsed in the dishwasher without using powder, just salt is enough.


The lid can be cleaned perfectly with Sonax cleaner in combination with a stiff brush. Its yellowness is removed by soaking for 1-2 hours in a solution of sulfamic acid.
