How to make a silent magnetic lock - door lock
The spring or magnetic tongue of an interior door operates quite noisily. This, combined with turning the doorknob, can sound too loud, especially in the quiet of the night. In order not to wake up the whole family every time you open the door at night, put a homemade contactless magnetic lock on it - a latch.
To get a contactless magnetic lock, you need to install a magnet on the door leaf, and a screw in the frame opposite it. Due to the massiveness of the latter, the force of attraction of the magnet will be enough to hold the door in the closed position. For aesthetics, installation should be done at the bottom side of the door leaf, or even at the top, then the lock will be completely hidden from view.
A hole is drilled in the door for the magnet to make it flush.
In the center it is deepened with a thin drill for a self-tapping screw. For aesthetics, if the planting space is larger than necessary, putty can be applied to it to match the color of the canvas.
Then the magnet is recessed and pressed with a self-tapping screw.
A mark is placed on the box exactly opposite the magnet screw. Next, you need to step back 6 mm deeper so that the center of the screw is shifted. This will create a constant strong attraction between the magnet and the screw.
At the selected point you need to make a hole with a large drill to recess the screw head. Then it is deepened in the center with a 6 mm drill and countersunk to 8 mm. The screw is lubricated with shampoo or detergent and tightened. It needs to be deepened so that there is a gap of a fraction of a millimeter between the head and the magnet. In this position, the door will not open accidentally or from a draft. If there are animals in the house, you can install another lock so that they cannot open anything on their own.
