How to cheaply repair chips on a car hood
Very often, chips in the paintwork appear on the car body, especially the hood. Completely repainting it takes time and is quite expensive. If there is no money or desire to do this, then you can solve the problem with chips in another way.
Materials:
- Degreaser;
- auto enamel;
- varnish in an aerosol can;
- moisture-resistant sandpaper P 2000;
- polish ZM No. 09374.
The process of repairing chips on a car hood
On exposed metal, rust appears in chips that needs to be removed. This is done with a needle or the tip of a knife blade. You just need to scrape off the dirt and corrosion without damaging any of the surrounding paint.
The treated area is wiped with a degreaser. It is necessary to use it, since ordinary solvents can wash off the varnish. Now you need to lightly sand the surface around the chips to leave a mark on the varnish. Do this on a wet hood with sandpaper R 2000 using a smooth block. You just need to achieve a matte finish around the chips.
After drying, the hood is degreased again. Paint matched to the tone is applied to the chips. This is done with a brush, and in the smallest chips with a toothpick.When the enamel dries, it shrinks, so even if you pour a lot of it, there will be potholes. They are removed with a second, and if necessary, a third layer.
On the second day, when the enamel is completely dry, the area of the hood or body is degreased. Now you need to erase the paint deposits with sandpaper and a block in order to maximally level the filled chip with the rest of the surface.
This will not be 100% successful, but the transition can be smoothed out later with varnish.
The surface is dried and degreased. Then varnish is applied to the painted chips with a brush.
A regular aerosol car varnish is used, simply sprayed into a cup. You need to apply it in the form of drops to finally align the chip with the main surface.
After a day, the surface is degreased, and the deposits of varnish are wiped off with a block of wet sandpaper, after which the repaired areas are polished.
As a result, the hood or any other part of the body treated in this way will look quite decent. From a distance of 1-2 m, the painted areas are not visible at all, and if the car is covered in dust, then the former chips cannot be seen even if you look closely.
