Quick repair option for cracks in slate

It is not so rare that slate roofing sheets crack along their entire length for various reasons. Most often, this occurs due to deformation of the wooden roof frame, impact with a heavy object, or careless walking on a slate roof. It is practical and reliable to eliminate such a defect using material for vibration insulation of cars, and any adult can do this.

The process of repairing a cracked slate roof using car vibration insulation material

First of all, carefully clean the slate material on both sides of the crack with a metal brush to a sufficient width. We degrease the cleaned surface with any suitable means, in particular, window cleaning liquid. We wait for it to dry or wipe it with a rag. If the weather is cool, then it is advisable to warm up the area around the crack a little with the flame of a gas burner.

Apply a strip to the crack material for vibration insulation of cars required width and length.Lightly press the edge of the strip against the damaged slate and remove the backing, continuing to smooth the material with your hands. If necessary, we use a second strip of vibration-isolating material overlapping with the first strip.

Warm up the used material for vibration insulation of cars using a gas burner and vigorously roll it out with a special roller. As a result, the bitumen base with an adhesive layer firmly adheres to the slate surface, reliably seals the crack and even further strengthens the slate.
