Rug made of pompoms
Everyone wants to have beautiful, cozy and practical things in their home, and if they are also made by your own hands, then it’s simply magical. Add something cute like a pom pom rug to your space. They are very soft, warm and cozy, and making them yourself is not at all difficult, you just have to want to.
So, let's get ready and collect all the materials necessary for the work.
For this we need:
• pen or pencil
• sharpened scissors
• thick paper or cardboard
• template for drawing a circle (for example, a mug)
• thick threads of a color you like or that matches the design of the room
• large needle
• fabric for the base (it should be thick, bias tape (optional).
Now you can start the process.
First, think about what size and shape you want. Be sure to make a sketch and dream up a little.
Secondly, we need to make lots and lots of pompoms. To do this, we need to cut out two identical blanks from thick paper. Let's take two sheets of cardboard or thick paper, draw a circle on them using our improvised pattern, and inside another circle, but smaller (it is very convenient to use a compass for this). Next, cut out our resulting rings. Now we thread a thick thread into a large needle and begin to wind it in a circle around our rings, two folded at once. You can do this simply with your hands, but when there are already quite a lot of threads on the template, it will be more difficult for you. When the middle is almost completely filled with wound threads, cut the thread and proceed to the next step. Take sharp scissors and carefully cut the threads, running the blade along the edge, between the two templates. Take a small thick thread and pass it between the paper circles and tie it tightly to pull the threads that are on the rings together. There is no need to trim the ends of this thread; we will need them later. Carefully remove the templates. That's it - the pompom is ready. We can proceed to the next one and so on until there are as many of them as we need for the rug to match our sketch.
Another great option is to wrap threads around the legs of a chair.
When you are done with the pompoms, take a thick fabric (this can be denim, felt or any other thick fabric) Using the image in our sketch, cut out the shape you need in duplicate.
Using pom-pom tails and a large needle, attach them to one of two pieces of fabric in an order you like, but so that they stick closer to each other.
Now we put the other half down to cover the sloppy knots from attaching the pompoms and sew along the edges, finishing with bias tape. Can also be crocheted. If you don’t have thick fabric in your arsenal, you can also knit the workpiece yourself. And if you take a creative approach, you can add paws and a head to such a rug, and you’ll get a cute little animal.Or if the rug is round, you can make rays or fringe on the edges.
Flower, sunshine, whatever you want, here you are limited only by your flight of fancy.
