Balloon made from an old light bulb
What do you usually do with a burnt out light bulb? Do you take it for recycling or just throw it in the trash? I propose to give the light bulb a second life and, thereby, save nature from excess dirt that is harmful to it. Ask how else can you use a light bulb besides its normal use, especially when it has burned out? Now you will find out how! Today I will teach you how to create a very beautiful and “light” balloon from an old burnt out light bulb.
What you will need for work:
We start knitting with an Amigurumi loop so that there is no hole in the center, but if you want to make the ball more openwork, you can leave the hole. We cast on six loops.
We knit the second row of two loops in each column of the bottom row. There should be 12 columns.
Now let's start creating the pattern. We knit the third row from double crochets. We knit a double crochet, cast on two chain stitches, skip the two lower stitches and repeat the double crochet and chain stitches. We knit like this until the row ends.
Now you can change the thread. Do not cut off the green thread, you will still need it. I knit a simple striped balloon, yours can be multi-colored. We tie a white thread and knit two rows with it.
Now change the thread again to green. The white one, like the green one, does not need to be cut off. We knit one row in green and again make the next row with a pattern of double crochets and chain stitches. We knit another row of regular stitches in green and again add a white thread.
Now that we've reached the widest part of the bulb, it's time to narrow the knitting. We begin to gradually decrease the loops according to the same principle as we added. We knit two more rows in white and at the end two rows in green.
Let's start knitting a basket. We make the bottom of 3-4 rows with an extension of single crochets. We start, as usual, with the Amigurumi loop. Then we knit several rows without adding until we cover the entire metal base of the light bulb. To make the bottom of the basket flat, you can insert a cardboard circle into it or fill it with a little padding polyester. Thanks to this trick, the bottom of the knitted basket will not fit around the base of the light bulb and will be flat, not round.
It turns out to be such a cute balloon. If desired, you can make slings using regular white sewing thread. Just make several strips of white thread from the basket to the green part of the ball along the entire perimeter, and you will get a good imitation of slings.
From such a balloon you can make a beautiful pendant for interior decoration, an original Christmas tree decoration, or make a stand out of wire, for example, and use the balloon as a figurine. This is how you can make an original decoration from an ordinary burnt out light bulb.
What you will need for work:
- Several skeins of yarn in different colors. The brighter you choose the threads, the more fun the balloon will look.
- Crochet hook.
- Scissors.
- Brown yarn for the balloon basket.
- And, in fact, a burnt-out light bulb, of a classic shape.
