Door repair using PVC panels
Decorative PVC panels appeared on the market recently, but have already managed to win the love of the people. They have many advantages:
• they are easy to use (they are easy and quick to install);
• when joining two panels, the seam is not visible;
• sufficiently resistant to water, which allows them to be used in the bathroom;
• hardly flammable (have the property of self-extinguishing until the temperature reaches +391°C);
• do not require careful care.
Another big plus is their versatility. Decorative panels will decorate any room: a kitchen or bathroom, walls in a hallway or a door in a room - every client will be satisfied. Decorative PVC “mosaic” panel, sheet decorative panels or wood-look panels can be used for a budget renovation option. If we consider the decorative PVC “mosaic” panel, then, using many color options and combinations, it can be used to make the interior interesting and save time. Such panels are an excellent replacement for wallpaper and tiles, which are much more expensive.For those who love comfort and believe that wood embodies warmth and comfort, wood-look panels are produced. You can safely install a fireplace in such rooms and the panels will complement it well. Sheet decorative panels are environmentally friendly and safe, they do not attract dirt and dust, and thanks to their tight fit to the surface, nothing will penetrate inside. Laminated plastic panels do not leave dents or scratches, so they can be safely used for finishing doors.
What materials will be required to give an ordinary wooden door a presentable appearance:
• decorative PVC panel “mosaic” with sheet size 485 x 960 mm;
• scissors;
• polymer glue.
Before covering the door with panels, it is necessary to perform a number of preparatory work. Since we will not cover the ends of the door with panels, we will free them from excess paint, sand them and paint them in the desired color. If you want the ends to be the same color as the plastic sheet, select the appropriate paint tone in a specialized store. We decided to paint the ends of the door with white paint, the same as the door frame and slopes.
Our door is not solid, but with “windows”, so in order for the sheets of plastic to stick to the main door leaf, you need to measure them correctly. We have 6 “windows”, so there will be 6 sheets of plastic, although the size of the PVC panels allows the use of 4 sheets, but only if the door is solid.
We will lubricate the door along the contour with glue for better adhesion to the PVC panels, so we will first mark the location of each panel and then lubricate the door with glue.
The panels are easy to cut with scissors.
After we have cut the sheets to the required size, we grease each sheet with glue on the back side, then apply it to the door and press it along the contour.
You can use masking tape to secure the sheets. After the second panel is glued, use masking tape to secure them on the sides, top and to each other.
Similarly, glue the next 2 middle panels, then 2 more sheets below.
When the door is covered with PVC panels on one side, use a knife to cut out a hole for the handle with a lock and insert the inside of the lock.
We will paste the door on the other side and only after that we will install the handle.
After 4 – 5 hours, the masking tape can be removed. This is what the finished door looks like.
The entire door repair process took no more than 2 hours.
