How to pull out a concrete pillar with a jack
Right in the middle of summer cottages you can find old, de-energized concrete power line poles, which energy companies have no intention of removing. In this case, all worries about their removal fall on the shoulders of the site owners. Basically, the problem is solved by renting a crane, but if there is no access to the poles, then you can pull them out manually using a jack and a homemade device made from pipes.
Materials:
- profile pipe 50x50x5 mm;
- profile pipe 40x40x4 mm;
- pin or rod 18-20 mm.
Manufacturing process and features of use of the device
To jack up a pole, you need to weld a U-shaped bracket from a profile pipe. To do this, measure the width of the pillar at its widest point. In the example it was 160 mm. Based on this figure and adding 10 mm in reserve, you need to cut a piece of 50x50 mm profile pipe 170 mm long. It will serve as a support for the jack.
Next, 2 pieces of pipe 40x40 mm, 350 mm each, are prepared. From one edge of the resulting workpiece, a through hole of 18-20 mm is drilled for a pin or rod.
Now you need to weld a bracket from the blanks.The central pipe 50x50 mm must be placed between the side tubes and slightly rotated relative to their plane. You will also need to prepare a piece of pipe 40x40 with a length of 150 mm.
The device is installed on a pole. A pin or rod is inserted into its holes. To strengthen it, it must be threaded through a previously prepared section of pipe 40x40 mm.
On the side of the stud, a wooden beam is inserted between the fixture and the post. A jack mounted on boards is placed under the thick pipe. To see the progress of pulling the pole, you should put a mark on it, after which you can start jacking it up.
As soon as the jack rises completely, you need to lower it, move the bracket down and raise it again along with the pole. As you exit, the pole will begin to tilt, tilting the jack. Then you will have to tinker a little, substituting additional bars. When jacking, you must stand to the side relative to the direction of the slope.
When the post comes out of the ground enough, it will tip over and fall exactly in the opposite direction from the jack. It is important that no one is in the fall zone at this time. The resulting pillar will be useful in the future as a border; it can also be cut into several lintels for window and door openings during construction.
