We sew a petticoat for a sun-cut skirt
To make a petticoat for a girl with a waist circumference of 67 cm, a hip circumference of 84 cm, and a panel length of 42 cm (with a skirt length of 45 cm), you will need:
1.White calico, 0.17 m;
2.Rigid white mesh (tulle), 1 m;
3.White sewing thread, 4 spools;
4. White elastic band 2.5 cm wide, 57 cm long;
5.White satin bias tape, 8.2 m;
6. Household sewing machine;
7.Overlock;
8. Scissors;
9.Ruler;
10. Chalk;
11. Iron;
12. Device for attaching bias tape.
From calico and tulle you need to cut out strips 17 cm wide.
In this case, the length of the calico strip will be calculated as follows:
Hip circumference + increase 5 cm + seam allowance 2 cm = 84+5+2=91 cm.
Tulle is cut to the full width. As a rule, this type of mesh is 1.5 m wide.
A strip of calico will serve as a petticoat yoke. Since the yoke fits tightly to the body at the waist, it is advisable to use just such a thin soft fabric, and not a mesh, which will prick and rub the skin.
The upper long edge of the strip of calico should be ironed 4 cm - this is the future drawstring for the elastic.
The tulle strips should be joined together into one long piece. To do this, just sew them with end cuts and iron the seam allowances. Seam seam – 1 cm.
Then you should process the first mesh frill. To do this, you need to sew a mesh to the lower longitudinal section of the yoke, laying it in one-sided folds 1 cm wide. The folds should go one after another without a distance between them. Stitching seam – 1 cm.
The mesh consumption for this frill will be 3 lengths of the yoke.
The second frill of the petticoat should be treated in a similar way.
The mesh consumption for it will be 3 times the length of the first frill.
Then the seam allowances for attaching the frills should be overcast and stitched next to the overlocker.
Using a special device, the bottom of the second frill should be edged with bias tape so that the prickly cut of the tulle does not cling to the fabric of the skirt and tights. The stitched binding needs to be ironed on the front side.
Afterwards you need to sew the prepared petticoat into a ring. The stitching seam is 1 cm. The seam allowance must be overlocked with an overlocker and then pressed.
Then you should overcast the top edge of the petticoat yoke. The allowance for the drawstring should be stitched at a distance of 2 mm and 3 cm from the ironed edge. You need to leave a hole in the second line so you can insert the elastic later.
You need to insert an elastic band into the drawstring of the petticoat, the ends of which need to be connected using a sewing machine with an overlay seam. The length of the elastic is calculated as the waist circumference minus 10 cm.
The petticoat is ready. Cut and sewn in this way, it holds the shape of the sun skirt well.
