Salt dough souvenir

Salty dough is a universal, and most importantly environmentally friendly, material for sculpting interesting souvenirs, refrigerator magnets, wall panels and other cute little things. This activity will appeal to children of any age. When modeling, children develop creative thinking, finger motor skills and perseverance. Unlike plasticine, crafts made from dough are very durable, although the modeling technique is almost the same. It doesn’t require any special skills, the main thing is to knead the dough to the desired consistency and maintain the proportions.

So, take 1 part extra salt, 1 part flour and 0.5 parts water. Mix these ingredients into a stiff dough and you can begin the creative process. What do you want to make? There are no restrictions, so imagine: an animal, a person, an insect, a car, yes, anything!

How to make such an exclusive souvenir - a Slavic woman with a watermelon? First of all, we sculpt the face. Tear off a small piece of dough and roll it into a ball, giving it the shape of a head. From the larger one you create the torso. Attach your hands to it. Decorate your head as you like - a scarf, a braid, a wreath or a hat. Place a round ball-shaped lump of dough in your hands and decorate it with stripes.Using a toothpick, draw out the eyes and mouth. Small flies, such as bagels, are created from a flattened ball, in the center of which an imprint is placed with a pencil.

Think about how the craft will be attached to the surface. If you want to hang it on the wall, insert a loop of wire or thread. If this item will be used as a refrigerator magnet, attach the magnet to the back of the young lady. Now move on to drying. To make it go quickly, use the oven. Place the souvenir on a baking sheet into a preheated oven and wait until the soft, pliable dough hardens. After cooling, you can start painting.

In order for the craft to be beautiful and bright, it is best to use ordinary gouache. When painting, you don’t need to wet the brush very much so that the paint layer is thick and it doesn’t spread. If possible, for greater stability, shine and protection from moisture, a salt dough souvenir can be varnished over the paint.

from 20 min. up to 1 hour. It all depends on the thickness of the figurine and the temperature of the oven.
