Super log stove, burns for more than 6 hours

Super log stove burns for more than 6 hours

This is just a godsend for tourists, fishermen, hunters or all those people who like to cook outdoors. A quick rocket stove that can be made in 5-10 minutes from any log. Such a miracle stove will burn for more than 6 hours! All this time you can continuously cook food or simply warm yourself with a flame.
This is a good and fast design that will be very useful not only on a hike, but also at the dacha, picnic, or if the power and gas are turned off at home.

Will need

The requirements and necessary details are simply minimal:
  • Log.
  • Feather drill.
  • 3 nails.

You will also need a screwdriver, hammer, and pliers.

Making a rocket stove from a log

We find a log of medium thickness, or saw a lying tree trunk, fortunately there are plenty of them in the forest.

We take a cordless screwdriver with a feather drill with a diameter of 30-50 mm.

Drill a blind hole in the center of the log.

We drill all the way to go through the middle of the log. Shake out the shavings; they will no longer be useful.

Next, you need to drill a hole on the side, but so that the resulting channel meets the existing channel. This can be done simply by placing the drill on the side and noticing the drilled distance.

We drill, shake out the sawdust.

Thus, the log should have an L-shaped channel like a jet stove.
We drive three nails on top.

Using pliers, bend the nails. This will be a stand for pots and pans.

Lighting up the stove

Insert dry wood chips into the hole from the side until it stops.

Now light the splinter and carefully insert it into the central hole.

Add a little more wood chips on top for kindling.

10-15 minutes and there is an even and stable burning.

For the experiment, put a pan of water. Everything works perfectly.

Result of using the oven

Six hours later, the stove was still functioning and producing enough heat, but placing dishes on it was now dangerous - the flames reached the nails.

In general, if you take a thicker log, you can easily increase the burning time to 8 hours!
You can make such a stove at home before a hike or make it right on the hike, taking the necessary tools with you on your trip.
Instead of nails, in nature, you can use 3 small stones, or two thin trunks, laid parallel to each other.

I imagined a tourist who carries with him a saw, a hammer, nails and, most importantly, a cordless screwdriver with a feather drill ;)
This means it’s not for tourists, but if the idea is slightly modified, then you can do it with just a penknife. It looks like we take a piece of log, for example sawed off with a thread saw, these are popular among survivalists, they don’t weigh much, then we split the log into 4 parts (I liked the video with the idea of how to split a log with a small knife - you just need to make wedges with a knife!), cut off the middle quarters, scratch the side vent and collect everything in one pile, you can use wire, or if you don’t have it with you, it’s trivial to dig a hole and insert this piece of log there, leaving the vent open. And then set fire and warm up ;)

Apparently you've only heard about tourists from stories. And in your superficial understanding, a tourist is a simpleton with a backpack. This is the last century, my dear man in the street. Everyone has been traveling in SUVs for a long time! And it’s not a hindrance to take at least a log or an instrument with you.
Yes, even if on foot - make this from a small log for 1 hour of burning - a great idea! The author gets five plus!
Don't listen to critics - think with your own head.

It’s you, dear one, who apparently only consider those who go out for barbecue by car as tourists. On off-road vehicles there are autotourists, and there are also hiking, skiing, water, speleo, mountain, etc. tourism...
True, in caves or in the mountains above the forest zone where mountain tourists live, there may be a problem with logs, but otherwise I have to agree with the previous post of Sergei K - a cool idea, but only suitable for autotours.
For people on foot - a “forest stove”, a modification of which is suggested below.

for an hour of burning to carry all this stuff (it is not known to what distance)... isn’t it easier to make a nadya? In the forest everything is at hand

Why are you putting the kettle on the log?

It’s even easier to take 3-4 small-diameter logs and tie (dig) together. Place the ignition in the center, and it is not necessary to drill the blower. You will get a version of the Finnish candle.

I’m always amazed at the stupidity of critics who comment while sitting on the sofa holding a mouse in one hand and something in the other, accustomed to using only the latest achievements of civilization and criticizing these methods for the simplest survival in nature, but take your phone away from you fools, and you’re in hysterical, you’ll start looking for your mother’s skirt, since you won’t find your way home, and to warm yourself by the fire, this article would come in handy, so you fell into accepting the natural, it’s easier to crap on the author in the hope of likes from your own kind... and if you go deeper, then you can do without a drill, they just showed you how the draft physically works, find a rotten dry log and pick it out with a knife, that’s all, it may not be so aesthetically pleasing and it won’t burn for so long, but perhaps longer than run, search and spend calories looking for brushwood... in general, hello to the armchair critics, I've trashed you, I'll talk about you and I'll talk...and respect and respect to the author, handsome, for sharing

Finnish lumberjacks have another option: they don’t drill the same block of wood, but cut it from one end to about half the height 3-4 times, like an asterisk, splash a little gasoline in the tank and set it on fire. The dishes are placed without nails. The rest is still the same.

Far away? In 1884, apparently. And this thing has many names. It’s a taiga candle, it’s a Canadian candle, it’s a Swedish primus. It's not clear what's pissing you off. Worry less, you'll be healthier.

Not bad. You can take note. Only here you can hammer the nails closer to the edges so that everything doesn’t fall through if it suddenly burns out ahead of time...

Why don’t I carry a screwdriver into the forest? The author works from the network, which means there are sockets in the forest.

Well, yes, I wouldn’t go into the forest without a screwdriver, the most necessary tool in the forest. A Finnish candle can help you, which can be made using improvised means from several poles; in this case, one good knife is enough.

Thanks to the author for the idea, it’s quite useful. And for the attention of commentators: not everything in the world was invented for your chilled sofas and your brainless heads. Learn to extract the “pearl grain”, and not stupidly push it into the forest with a screwdriver.

He spent half his life in the taiga, hunting in winter, panning for gold in summer. The option is simply super, cheers to the author. An idiot will only carry a log of wood with him in his backpack, but there are piles of firewood in the forest, but where the entrance is there is a useful thing, very useful for those around

the idea is good... when everything is fine, but if force majeure happens - you get lost, get lost and the screwdriver goes in someone's backpack... there is a simpler idea... dig a hole, 30-40 cm deep, and a small groove from it , for the flow of air. We light a fire in the hole, and put several logs in the hole end up... the same Finnish candle, without wire and any troubles... as the logs burn out, they fall into the hole --- you get some warmth for your eyes!!!
