4 ways to quickly peel onions without tears
You can quickly peel onions in the usual way. But why, if you can do it without tears? I offer you four accessible methods that will significantly save your energy and time.
Onions are a healthy vegetable that cooks often use fresh, pickled, fried, baked or boiled.But when working with it, several problems arise:
- the peel is not removed;
- the peel is removed in small parts;
- the cleaning process takes a long time;
- the juice gets into the eyes and causes irritation of the mucous membranes.
There are several tricks with which you can peel vegetables quickly and without tears.
Method 1 “With a top layer”
If it is necessary to remove the husk very quickly, and at the same time leave the heads intact, then the shell is removed with the upper fleshy layer.
Cleaning secret step by step:
1. Rinse the knife with cold water so that the juice does not splash in different directions.
2. Cut off the lower part with the roots.
3. Cut off the top part.
4. Make a longitudinal cut, cutting through the dry shell along with the top juicy layer.
5. Using a knife, pry the edge of the cut and remove the husk along with the top layer using your fingers.
Method 2 “Half and half”
If the integrity of the head is not important, the easiest way to clean it is to cut it in half. If half needs to be crushed later, the base is not removed. When slicing, it will help hold the product in your fingers.
Cleaning process step by step:
1. Using a sharp knife, cut the head in half.
2. Begin to peel the top dry layer of peel from the stems in a downward direction.
3. The roots are not cut off.
In this case, the likelihood of eye irritation increases due to the number of incisions. Before work, you can place a glass of cold water next to it, periodically dipping a knife into it to wash off the onion juice.
Method 3 “In boiling water”
If whole onions are doused with hot water, the skin can be removed very easily. When using this type of cleaning, it is important to correctly calculate the time the vegetable remains in the water so that it does not cook.
Process step by step:
1. Place the onion in a deep bowl. Water is boiling in a kettle. As soon as the water reaches a temperature of 100 degrees, vegetables are poured into it. Water should completely cover all heads.
2. Keep the onion in boiling water for 1 minute and begin to peel. Cut off the top and bottom. Afterwards a longitudinal incision is made.
3. The shell can be easily removed directly with your fingers. To do this, pull it by the edge of the incision, removing it in one movement.
Fourth: “Wet method”
If you need to peel more than a kilogram of onions, use the wet method, but using cold water. You can’t leave onions in boiling water for a long time, and it’s very difficult to peel a bucket of onions in one minute.
How to clean:
1. Place vegetables in a convenient container, such as a bucket or deep bowl.
2. Fill with cold water.
3. Leave for 5 minutes until the skin gets wet.
4. After this, the peel is easily removed.Just cut off the top and pull the edge.
Finally
Knowing the various methods of working with a bow, you can use several secrets:
- if you need to complete the process very quickly, then it is better to remove the shell with the top layer;
- if the task is to peel about a kilogram of product, then you can safely pour boiling water over the vegetables, and then quickly remove the peel;
- if you need to clean only a couple of heads, then the “half and half” method is suitable;
- and when working with very large volumes, the “wet method” with cold water is most suitable.
