Decorating PVC pipes to look like natural wood
PVC pipes are used for heating systems, water supply, drainage of precipitation from roofs and the creation of various crafts. With such great advantages, they have a huge drawback - an unsightly appearance. As a result, communications from them have to be hidden in boxes or grooves. The unattractiveness of gray pipes is a removable drawback, since the PVC surface can be decorated to look like wood.
To work you need to prepare:
First you need to sand the surface of the pipe using sandpaper.
The work is not difficult, but painstaking.
It is important to achieve a matte surface while erasing the inscriptions. If they are completely stubborn, you should try to remove them with an acetone-based solvent or nail polish remover.
Next, using a rasp with large teeth to process wood, you need to apply deep furrows to the surface of the pipe, making short movements along it.
They will imitate the surface of wood fibers. The movement must be done at different angles. Also, a good visual effect will be with different depths of the grooves, which is adjusted by the force of pressing the file.
As scratches are made, the rasp will become clogged with plastic. To clean it you need to use a metal brush.
The grooves from the file have a sharp edge that can cut your palms, so it is better to do the work with gloves.
After finishing the rasp treatment, you should lightly sand the surface with the same sandpaper to remove the sharp edges of the scratches.
Using a piece of cloth from a soft towel, rub the surface of the pipe with oil paint.
Deep furrows receive more paint, making them appear darker. As a result, after application the wood texture is clearly visible. One layer of oil is enough.
In this way, you can decorate not only PVC pipes, but also plastic window frames. Since oil paint is used, painted surfaces can only be used indoors, since it will wash off outside. If desired decor can be coated with a specialized protective varnish, compatible with oil.
