How to make an electric trap for mice and rats
Mice and rats accompany humans everywhere. They destroy food and crops in dachas and fields, carry viruses of severe infections and even gnaw signal wires in devices. Cats and traps cannot cope with the invasion of rodents, and the use of poisons can poison our pets: dogs, cats. In addition, after poisoning, rodents go out into the streets and become easy prey for birds of prey, which die from rat poison.
The most advanced method of exterminating harmful animals is an electric trap.
Materials and tools
Materials:
- Chinese racket for fighting mosquitoes and flies (powerful 12 V model TBD G8 was used);
- 4 metal plates from tin cans (beer cans can be used);
- stranded copper wire in insulation (diameter 2 mm, length up to 1 meter);
- a piece of plywood or durable cardboard measuring 20x40 cm;
- empty clean pet jar or 2.5 liter bottle.
Tools:
- hot-melt gun with adhesive stick;
- scissors;
- electric drill.
Manufacturing process
First of all, let's prepare the base for our trap.On a rectangular plywood plate, we will drill 4 holes for the wires, which will be connected to the conductive electrode plates.
Let's cut out small rectangular plates measuring 4x10 cm from beer cans. Let's place them on our base. The distance between the plates should be 2 cm. We pierce a hole not far from the bottom edge of each plate.
We stretch the wires from below under the base and thread their ends into the holes in the board and electrode plate.
We connect the wire and the plate by twisting. We connect the wiring from the plates so that adjacent electrodes have different polarities.
We make a common output of the negative and positive wires to the surface of the base (through a drilled hole).
We glue the electrode plates to the base with hot glue.
We take the TBD G8 insect repellent racket and take out the entire electronic unit, but before that we short-circuit the electrodes to remove the existing charge.
Its dimensions are only 4x10 cm. The block consists of several parts. A step-up transformer increases the voltage hundreds of times. It increases even more in the doubler and goes to the capacitor. We connect our 2 wires from the plates with twists to the two wires of the block that went to the racket nets. The block can be glued to the base.
You can also add a powerful capacitor of a couple of tens of thousands of microfarads. It is connected in parallel. We turn on the unit and check the adjacent plates for short circuits. There are sparks, everything works.
Take a plastic jar or an empty 2.5 liter plastic bottle. Along the generatrix of the bottle cylinder, we cut out a plate slightly wider than the length of our electrodes.
With the resulting window we close the electrode field from above.In the middle of the bottle, about 3 cm from the cut edge, we cut a round hole with a diameter of 3 cm; it serves for visiting the trap by future victims. The cap of the bottle or jar must be closed.
We pour a handful of any grain or cereal inside the bottle, turn on the device and begin hunting for mice and rats. The installation is self-contained and can be placed in garages, sheds and other utility rooms.
What's good about the bottle? It can be immediately dismantled and thrown into the trash along with the killed mice. A new bottle is installed in a minute.
