Quick eyeglass frame repair

If the frames of expensive eyeglasses (with lenses made according to an individual prescription) break, there is an easy way to quickly restore them. This will allow you to fully use them until new ones are made.

What do we need

• Hand mini drill;
  
• Thin drill with a diameter of 1.6 mm;
  
• Awl;
  
• Set of miniature screwdrivers;
  
• Cheap rimless reading glasses.

Preparatory work

First, you need to free the lenses of your glasses from the broken frames.


In this case, you must be careful not to confuse the correct position of the lenses.

For reliability, you should set a mark - make a notch on the edge of the glass or temporarily stick some small sticker.

You should also take apart your reading glasses. To do this, using a suitable screwdriver, unscrew all the bolts and free the cheap glasses from the temples and bridge of the nose - we will need these parts for installation on our expensive lenses.

Marking

The lenses of my glasses differ from the “donor” ones, but this does not prevent me from using cheap lenses as a template for marking the future holes for fastenings. Mark the place for drilling with an awl.

At the same time, you need to try hard to ensure that the notch is not only visible, but also deep enough - this will not allow the drill to jump off and scratch the expensive glass.

Drilling

I highly recommend making a test hole in a cheap lens. This will help you choose the right amount of pressure and avoid future mistakes that could ruin all your efforts.

Such preparation will make further actions easier and will allow you to complete the work more accurately.

Assembly

After the expensive lenses are drilled, all that remains is to install the temples and bridge of the nose from cheap glasses and tighten the bolts with a screwdriver. The main thing is not to overdo it. Your lenses may vary greatly in thickness. Therefore, in order not to damage them, it is better to use a screwdriver without much effort.

When drilling with a thin drill, you should be careful - due to its small size, it can easily come off and injure your fingers.

Work results

As a result, we received glasses with expensive lenses made to order, which can be used as a backup option even after new glasses are ready. Cheap frames have one positive quality - they are soft, so it is very easy to adjust them so that the glasses fit well and do not distract from business.
