3 ways to remove scratches of any depth from a wooden surface
Scratches on the wooden surface, as well as chips and other defects are very noticeable. Their presence is unpleasant, but does not affect functionality in any way, so changing the board for such minor reasons is not advisable. To improve the appearance, scuffs and damage can be hidden quite carefully, making them almost invisible.
Materials:
- wax pencil of the desired shade;
- permanent repair marker;
- masking tape;
- wood putty;
- sandpaper;
- putty knife;
- polish.
Method 1: Treating shallow scratches with a repair marker
Hiding shallow scratches is very easy. To do this, just select a special permanent repair marker of a suitable shade. They need to move it over the scratch, painting over its fibers, and then wipe off the excess ink with a napkin.
If there are multiple small scratches in one area, then it is much faster to simply soak some ink from a marker onto a piece of fabric, and then use it to polish the problem area.
Method 2: Correcting deep scratches with chips with a pencil
If the wood has not just scratches, but raised defects, then it is necessary to warm up the wax pencil, making the ink rod soft.
After this, you should cover the damaged area with a stylus and further smooth the wax with a cloth, removing the excess.
Method 3: Repairing major damage
If the parquet is damaged/furniture has a large area or a significant depression, then it will not be possible to remove the defect with just a pencil or marker. You need to use masking tape to cover the perimeter of the damaged area, protecting entire areas.
Wood putty is applied to deep defects.
After the putty has dried, it needs to be sanded with sandpaper.
Next, ink from a marker is applied to it to change the white color of the new base to the required shade.
If the restored stain has insufficient shine, which makes it stand out from the general background, you can use polish.
It will allow you to align the restored surface with the rest, removing the dullness effect.
The proposed methods of working with scratches and chips are available to everyone, since they are very simple and do not require expensive tools. The whole difficulty of high-quality restoration of a varnished wooden surface lies only in the selection of repair materials of the correct shade.
