The simplest battery-powered electric train, an experiment worth a look
A very funny, cheerful and simple experiment that clearly shows the power and effect of electromagnetism. An electric train will be made from a battery that can quickly travel through a tunnel made of copper wire. Moreover, there will be no unnecessary moving elements in the design, only what is listed below.
Will need
To carry out the experiment you will need only three components:
- AA battery.
- Copper wire with a diameter of 0.8-1.2 mm. Be sure to be clean, without varnish insulation.
- 4-6 pieces of flat neodymium magnets, with a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the battery.
Making a simple electric train
We make a spiral from the wire. The diameter is slightly larger than the diameter of the magnet. To do this, you can build a frame from thick cardboard. The coils can be wound closely, but then you need to stretch the coil a little.
Let’s connect 6 magnets in pairs “3+3”. They themselves are well attracted by opposite poles. Next, we bring them to the poles of the battery. They will magnetize themselves and then our electric train will be ready for work.
Little by little we insert the electric train into the spring and observe.
As soon as the second pole touched the spiral, the battery rushed to the front and drove through the entire spring itself.
Let's complicate the experiment. We make a long, almost meter-long spiral. And insert a battery with magnets into it.
Naturally, the battery quickly rushed through it until it had gone all the way.
If you now connect the beginning of the spiral with its end, while the battery is moving inside, the battery will continuously move in a circle until its charge weakens enough to move it.
Principle
The principle of this “miracle” is very simple: magnets are poles that transmit current to the coil. A magnetic field arises in it, which attracts the same magnets. As a result, an electromotive force arises, pushing this entire “composition” along the coil.
