How to make any small tool in 5 minutes
This master class will teach you how to make tools such as a screwdriver, awl, chisel and much more from available materials from scratch in almost a matter of minutes.
Very often there is a need for a specific screwdriver to unscrew various, not quite standard screws. For these tasks I prepare the tool myself.
Will need
- A regular steel nail - choose the diameter and length based on your needs.
- A piece of wood.
Tools: hammer, knife, vice, workbench or anvil, file.
Making small hand tools
We take a piece of wood and use a knife to plan it to a round shape. Then we sand with sandpaper to remove irregularities and burrs.
Using a hand hacksaw or band saw, we cut off the required handle size from the board for the future tool.
Next, take a hammer and use it to drive a large nail into the end of a piece of wood. About 1/2 the depth of the wood.
To bite off the extra length of the nail, quickly use the corner of the workbench. We put a nail on it and hit it with a hammer. The nail should break off.
Now, using sandpaper, we give the protruding section of the nail the desired shape. Of course, you can sharpen everything by hand, but this will take a lot of time.
By striking the anvil we form the desired plane.
Result
I quickly made 5 tools as an example.
Triangle screwdriver:
Mini mount:
Awl:
Flat head screwdriver:
round end scraper:
Since I have a lot of experience in metalworking, it took me about 5 minutes to make each tool.
