How to make a snow shovel from a putty bucket
Clearing the area of snow throughout the winter using a shovel requires a lot of effort and time. Using expensive motorized equipment for this will hit the family budget hard. To avoid these two extremes, you can make a snow shovel that resembles a scraper or a scraper, which, on the one hand, will help save energy, and on the other, money.
We will make the original snow shovel from the following available and inexpensive materials and products:
For work we will need some tools and devices: a jigsaw, hacksaws for wood and metal, a hand screwdriver, a die with a collar and a rivet gun.
To make the working body of our homemade product, we cut the plastic bucket longitudinally into two halves with a jigsaw. We connect them so that the stiffening ribs are in the center and fit tightly to each other.
We cut out a rectangular fragment of a given length and width from a thick wooden board. We apply it from the outside symmetrically to the line of connection of the two parts of the plastic bucket and from the inside we fix them to the wooden fragment with screws using a hand screwdriver.
We install a galvanized pipe flange in the center of the wooden rectangle and also secure it with several screws. Screw the steel pipe fitting into the threaded hole of the flange at 45 degrees.
At the ends of the long and short sections of steel pipe, using a die and a wrench, we cut threads and screw one end of the long pipe into an elbow fitting, and screw a steel tee onto the opposite end with a bend. We screw short tubes into the other two ends of the tee and screw plugs onto their ends.
To strengthen it, we apply an aluminum plate to the edge of the working body from below and drill holes in the plastic with a drill. Then, using a riveter, we fasten these elements together.
Our scraper style snow shovel is ready to go.
