2 useful homemade products from a plastic canister

Many liquids, such as engine oil, glass washer and primer, are sold in plastic cans, which are then sent to a landfill or used to store gasoline, industrial water, etc. However, the benefits of canisters do not end there, because they can be used to make useful devices for the home.

Toolbox

To make a tool storage box you will need:

canister with double neck;
furniture hinges – 2 pcs.;
clips for pipes 20 mm – from 10 pcs.;
M4-M6 screws with nuts and washers.

The canister needs to be marked along the seam for cutting. Furniture hinges are applied along a line to its bottom and their mounting holes are marked, then they are drilled.

Using a grinder or jigsaw, cut the canister in half along the markings. The edges obtained from the cuts are polished, and the prepared halves are connected with loops. They are fastened with screws, nuts and washers.

In this form, the canister turns into a case, to close which you need to screw on both lids.

Next, random holes are drilled in both halves, and pipe clips are screwed through them.

Clips are used as holders for screwdrivers, pliers, files and other tools. Thanks to this, when carrying it in a canister case, nothing will rattle.

Extension cord reel

Also, the canister body can be used as a protective casing with a reel for storing an electrical extension cord. To make such a device you will need:

canister;
sewer pipes 50 mm and 75 mm;
plug for pipe 50 mm;
narrow mounting angle;
a ready-made extension cord or just a separate cable, plug and socket.

In the sides of the canister, 2 holes are made opposite for a 50 mm pipe.

After this, the tube is cut 3 cm longer than the distance between the holes. On one side it needs to be extended with a bell. To do this, you can glue a narrow section of 75 mm pipe with hot glue. In this case, it must first be sawn across in order to narrow it to a diameter of 68 mm.

A small hole is drilled in the center of the tube. You also need to drill the lid of the canister. Then the extension cable is inserted through the cover with the socket removed. Its end must be passed through the hole in the tube and brought out to the socket.

A socket is connected to the laid wire. Next, it is installed in the socket as in a socket box, since it has the same mounting diameter.

On the second side of the tube, a wide plug is installed on the glue. Any pear-shaped object of suitable size, preferably made of plastic, can serve as it. Then a knob is screwed to the plug. It can be bent from a narrow mounting angle or a steel strip.

Thus, by rotating the knob you can retract the extension cable. If you pull the plug coming out of the canister lid, the wire will be pulled out, on the contrary.
