4 homemade accessories for a rotary hammer that expand its capabilities
By default, a hammer drill is a purely repair tool for drilling in impact mode, knocking out niches, grooves in walls and various dismantling works. However, its functionality is much broader; you just need to install the right equipment, which you can do yourself.
Wood splitter from a rotary hammer
For this homemade project you will need a plumb line in the shape of a cone and an old drill.
You need to cut off the shank from the drill and weld it to a plumb line.
After this, 3 cuts are made in the longitudinal direction on the resulting conical tip.
This attachment is used for chopping firewood in impact mode with drilling. The presence of cuts makes it easier to bite into the wood and speeds up its splitting. Due to the width of the cone, the logs are split along the entire length, and there is no need to tear them apart with your hands. Using such a tool, you can prepare firewood very quickly, provided that an assistant positions the logs vertically. At the same time, you don’t even have to lift them onto the deck, as when working with a regular cleaver.
Hammer for driving posts into the ground
If you need to drive many posts into the ground, a hammer attachment will be useful. It consists of a steel plate with a drill shank welded at a right angle.
The nozzle is used in impact mode. She places herself on top of the pillar and drives it into the ground with blows.
This device significantly increases labor productivity during one-ton hammering. The viability of the nozzle depends on the density of the soil and the diameter of the pillars. As a result of numerous impacts, its welding may not withstand, so the plate will need to be welded again. Even if repairs are made, the job will be completed faster than using a hammer. In addition, with this tool, your arms and back will be less strained.
Wide chisel blade for dismantling
Chisels for rotary hammers offered for sale are too narrow, so many tasks take an extremely long time to complete. If you need to split bricks or knock down a layer of old plaster, it is more convenient to use a wide spatula. To make it, just weld a thick steel plate of the desired width onto the drill shank and sharpen it.
The equipment has proven itself in work.
Nail hammer
By equipping a hammer drill with the right attachment, you can even hammer nails quickly and easily. To make it, you will also need a shank, but instead of a plate on a nail hammer, a welded pad made from a regular nut is used as the striking surface.
This rig is used in impact mode. It should be noted that due to the impact on the nail at the same angle, it is less likely to bend than when driven in with a hammer.
Having made any similar equipment, you can use the hammer drill to your advantage. Many people bought it to carry out repairs that were completed long ago, so the tool has been lying idle for years.
