Welding plastic pipes without a soldering iron
Not everyone has a soldering iron for welding plastic pipes, and it is not practical to rent or buy one for several connections. In this case, you can get by with a regular gas burner, which costs less and is often simply available. This method of extreme welding is also useful if there is no outlet nearby to connect a soldering iron, or it is impossible for it to reach a hard-to-reach place.
Preparing for welding with a torch is similar to using a soldering iron. Pipes and fittings must be clean, dry, preferably free of grease at the junction. Next, the burner is lit and a small torch is placed on it. First you need to warm up the coupling, elbow, tap or tee. The flame is directed directly inward, while the fitting is constantly rotated in the hand. As soon as the plastic has softened and begins to melt or smoke, the part is moved away.
It is necessary to start heating the pipe immediately. If there is no way to turn it, then you need to heat it from the end, moving the torch around the outer walls.
At this time, the heated fitting should be kept close to the heat so that it does not cool down. As soon as the pipe begins to float, the parts are joined and held for a couple of seconds for welding.
In extreme conditions, this method can be used to solder pipes that will operate under pressure, but for this you need to first practice to determine the optimal heating time. It is impossible to overheat the pipes, so as not to narrow the diameter of the muzzle. For soldering pipes in the manufacture of various homemade products, where tightness is not important, you can solder without preparation.
What you will need:
- gas-burner;
- thick gloves.
