How to make large aluminum can stoppers from small wine cans
Many people feel sorry for throwing away aluminum soda or beer cans, especially if they are thick-walled. Using this idea, you can make cork plugs for them. The resulting opening jars can be used to store spices, tea, sugar, etc.
What you will need:
- aluminum cans;
- wooden slats;
- wine corks.
The process of making large plugs
Using a feather drill, drill a hole in the rail to fit the diameter of the wine cork. Then a cut is made with a hacksaw to the hole so that it is located closer to the edge of the circle.
The rack is clamped in a vice with the cut facing upward. A cork is inserted into it, and through a cut it is cut on four sides with a hacksaw with fine teeth. The result should be cores in the form of bars.
Using a special knife, you need to cut off the lid on the jar, and using it as a template, glue the blank for a large cork with hot glue from cork bars. If there is no such opener, then it is enough to grind off the rolled edge between the walls of the jar and the lid, this will also remove it.
The glued blank is cut to fit the size of the lid.
It is pierced in the center, and a thin long bolt with a washer is inserted into it.
It needs to be tightened with a furniture thrust nut with antennae. Then the workpiece is clamped in the screwdriver chuck and ground on sandpaper under a cone until it fits into the neck of the can.
The bolt is removed from the finished cork, and a cork handle is glued to the top of the hole.
The jars themselves need to be washed with a solvent from the printed image or sanded. You can simply spray paint them on top.
