How to make an electronic lock from a DVD drive
Nowadays you can find as much computer hardware as you want. CD drives are fading away over time and are a great item to make into a fun DIY project. For example, an electronic lock with radio control, a great idea.
Will need
- DVD or CD drive.
- Espagnolette.
- Two-button radio-controlled toy.
Manufacturing an electronic lock
Let's disassemble the toy and unsolder the board.
There will be no difficulties with connecting, as everything is very simple.
We disassemble the drive, pull out the slide by bending the plastic latches.
Use a hacksaw to saw off the slide extension mechanism.
Using pliers we will bite off all the excess.
On the right you can see a gray flag, which moves left and right when the drive is opened; if power is applied, this will be clearly noticeable. That's what we need.
We take a piece of plywood and screw on the latch.
We bend a part from thick wire that will move the latch.
To prevent the latch handle from falling through, we will make guides for it from thick wire and fix it with superglue.
Next, solder the wires from the toy board to the motor.
Glue the previously made bracket.
We screw the mechanism from the drive.
We solder a battery from an old mobile phone to the board.
The electronic lock is ready for use. We press one button - the latch extends. We press the second one - it moves.
We install it on the door.
Works great.
