How to make a large tool box from plastic cans
A couple of empty plastic canisters can easily be converted into a lightweight, strong, and spacious tool storage box. To make it you need a minimum of purchased parts and time. Everything is done easily, literally in half an hour.
Materials:
- plastic canisters 10 l or more - 2 pcs.;
- wooden slats;
- wood screws with a wide head;
- door hinges – 2 pcs.;
- fasteners – 2 pcs.;
- PP pipe 20 mm;
- PP corners 45 degrees – 4 pcs.
Box making process
You need to cut off the top of two canisters, then insert one of them into the second by 20-30 mm.
After this, the halves are twisted together with self-tapping screws at the corners.
To make a box lid, you need to mark one side of the spliced canisters and cut it off. Previously screwed in screws will prevent the halves from falling apart.
Next, you need to screw the slats from the inside around the perimeter of the drawer. The resulting frame will strengthen the structure and give it the necessary rigidity. You should also strengthen the joint of the halves on the lid and the box itself. You can use rivets with washers on the back, or just screws and nuts.
After this, the lid is screwed to the box on the hinges. On the opposite side, fastening latches are installed to close the box.
The handle for the drawer can be soldered from PP pipes and 45 degree angles. It is screwed to the lid with long self-tapping screws through a batten made of lath. The fastener is wrapped directly into the walls of the knees.
This canister box is actually quite durable.
It can be fully loaded and carried by the handle without fear. It weighs almost nothing and is easily wiped off from dust and dirt.
