How to use PET bottles to grow a supply of spinach for the whole year in a month and a half
Small plots in the suburbs have very little usable space to plant whatever you want. If you don’t have enough beds, then a lot can be grown on a portable stand under bottles, which is installed in any sunny place. Using this method, you can plant spinach, as well as various greens for freezing and homemade preparations.
You need to put together a large tray for germinating seedlings from boards and a metal sheet.
A fertile substrate is collected into it, and egg trays are laid out on top.
The trays are filled with soil and watered abundantly from a watering can.
In each cell, a hole is pressed with a stick into which 3 spinach seeds are planted.
Then the tray is installed under the open sky in a sunny place, and is periodically irrigated.
There are approximately 2 weeks before transplanting the seedlings.During this time, you need to assemble a table with sides from the boards, in which direct cultivation will take place. Each plant will be under a cap made of 5-6 liter bottles. You should calculate the dimensions of the table in advance so that you can later place the bottles on it, spaced apart between the sides.
Fast-growing spinach varieties are ready for transplanting within 2 weeks after planting the seeds. You need to place the table in a sunny place, lay out the bags on it and fill it with soil.
Then seedlings are planted on it. You can cut out the soaked cells from the egg trays with a spatula and plant with them. Each hole should produce 2 plants. If all 3 seeds have sprouted, the weaker sprout is removed. The distance between the holes is calculated so that each of them can be covered with a bottle dome.
The bottom of the bottles is cut off, the labels are removed and the caps are removed. Then they cover the holes with seedlings. Watering is carried out through an open neck. All excess water will drain through the bags.
After 25 days, you need to remove the caps, dig grooves between the rows and fill them with natural fertilizer. Humus or compost will do. Then the plants are covered back.
Water the spinach as the soil dries out. If an early ripening variety was used, then after 40 days it can be cut into marketable greens.
As a result, we get a large bunch of succulent stems that are not soiled or overdried in the sun. Since the cultivation takes place on the table, the roots of the plants are protected from pests, so all seedlings should survive. Then the collected mass is used for cooking, and the excess can be chopped and frozen for the winter.
