How to make a jigsaw attachment for cutting without chipping
Cutting almost all materials with a jigsaw is accompanied by the formation of chips. To avoid them, you can make a special pad for the sole of the instrument. It will also allow you to use a simple rip fence mounted on the edge of the workbench.
Materials:
- Plywood 4-6 mm;
- any smooth strip or block;
- self-tapping screws 70 mm – 2 pcs.;
- M4 washers – 2 pcs.
Device manufacturing process
For a jigsaw, a pad is made of thin plywood 2 cm wider than the sole.
Sides also made of plywood are glued to the workpiece along the long side.
Then a cut is made in the overlay to remove the nail file.
After this, the front and rear sides are glued.
The front one is made of two strips so as not to block the cut for the nail file.
The sole blank is shortened if necessary.
For ease of sawing, you should screw the bar onto the edge of the workbench with self-tapping screws and nuts. You can place and clamp workpieces along it by tightening the screws. It not only holds the parts, but also works as a rip fence for the jigsaw.
Thus, the sole slides along the rip fence, which ensures an even cut. In addition, it holds the fibers of the top layer of the workpiece, so that the cut is obtained without chipping.
