Are your plastic windows sweating and there is no heat? There is 1 simple solution
Moisture in the room condenses on cold surfaces, which are double-glazed windows. This happens not only in houses with poor ventilation, but even when the humidity is within normal limits. In this case, the problem is that the double-glazed windows are much colder than the air in the room. This often happens when they are not installed tightly. A draft around the perimeter simply makes them icy, even if the double-glazed window has 2-3 chambers. To avoid wiping your glass every day and spend less on heating in winter, simply seal your plastic windows using the following method.
What you will need:
- Knife;
- pencil or marker;
- transparent silicone sealant;
- Silicone Grease;
- sealant gun.
The process of sealing double-glazed windows
To seal the windows, it is necessary to remove the glazing beads. First, one side is removed, and then the top, bottom and opposite. To do this, a knife is driven into the gap between it and the frame in the middle of the glazing bead.It is necessary to pry the glazing bead and release it from the groove along its entire length. Then it is taken out. You need to remove all the glazing beads and sign its location (right, left, bottom, top) on the inside surface with a marker. They cannot be mixed up, as later they may not snap into place without gaps. You can read how and how easily the glazing beads are removed here - https://home.washerhouse.com/en/8024-chem-i-kak-snjat-shtapiki-s-plastikovogo-okna-bez-povrezhdenij.html
After removing the beads, you can see the gap between the frame and the glass unit. It is from him that it shines through. It is assumed that it is blocked by a glazing bead, but in reality it still allows air to pass through.
Therefore, these gaps must be filled with silicone sealant. There is no need to degrease the surface before this, so that in the future, if you need to replace the double-glazed window, it will be easier to remove it.
A window opening requires 1.5-2.5 tubes of sealant. There is no need to save money; you need to push the silicone as deep as possible, completely blocking the cold bridges. At the same time, it should not stick out, so that you do not have to remove the excess, or wait until it dries before trimming.
After sealing, you can install the glazing beads back. There is no need to wait for the sealant to dry. The glazing beads can be easily snapped into place without impact if the locks and elastic are sprayed with silicone grease from the inside. After this modification, the windows will no longer show through, which will make the double-glazed windows on the inside warmer. This will solve the problem with condensation, unless of course the humidity in the room is abnormally high.
