Restoration of an old cabinet

Each of us has ever been faced with the decision of the future life of old things that do not fit into a modern interior. Sometimes it’s a pity to part with old furniture - after all, it is of good quality and is associated with old memories. If you have a dacha, you can take it out furniture there, but if there is no such solution, then you have to choose from two ways, either throw it in a landfill, or try to revive it and bring it into an appropriate form.
In principle, any furniture can be changed and made into an ideal addition to the interior. Today, restoration of upholstered furniture is very popular - those who made repairs in an apartment often replaced the sofa upholstery with a new one, more suitable for the surrounding environment. Plus, it's a huge plus to save money. And it’s also a creative process and pride that it’s all done with your own hands.
There is no need to be afraid to start remaking old things. Even if you have neither the skills nor knowledge in this process, you can simply turn to the Internet, or specialized literature, which is replete with a huge amount of information. Also, experienced workers from construction stores can help you in this matter, who will advise and recommend the materials you need for the creative process.
So, where to start?!
We are painting an old cabinet.
• It is necessary to find the cause of the breakdown and try to eliminate it.
• Check furniture for wood-boring beetles. If you still find passages, you need to blow them out. Then drip these passages with a special compound or kerosene. Before painting, seal holes with wax or wood putty.
• Now, being careful not to damage the wood, you need to remove the old paint. To do this, you can use special tools. Wear gloves and a respirator and work with a paint brush or cloth wrapped around a stick. You need to remove the softened paint with a spatula or a wooden block with a cut edge. Afterwards you need to sand the wood along the grain.
• We prime the surface for better adhesion of paints to wood. Sometimes varnishes and paints themselves are primers.
• Then you need to choose a paint: oil enamel, latex paint or water-based acrylic. Acrylic paint is more in demand in this matter, since it can be diluted with water, it is odorless, dries quickly, easily mixes with color, and most importantly, during the painting process, it can be washed off.
• Use quality brushes and roller.
• Paint the product and leave it until completely dry.
• When the paint has dried well, the surface should be cleaned with fine-grained sandpaper and wiped with a rag.
• Cover with a second coat of paint. Let it dry. If desired, you can also coat it with varnish; it will protect the product from deep dirt and dust.
Well, it's all ready! You can also decorate the products at your own discretion, using different design techniques.

There is also an old chest of drawers - it would be a pity to throw it away - it is strong and made of real wood. But you need to remove the varnish to paint it. as here
