Bed cover
It’s easy to sew a bedspread yourself, and the result will be very beautiful and more profitable than buying it in a store. There is another advantage to sewing with your own hands - this is that you can choose the fabric that suits you, according to color and texture.
To make a bedspread you will need to purchase:
•Textile.
It is best to choose quilted fabric made from padding polyester - satin, jacquard, etc. It is not as thick as a blanket, but has a very beautiful embossing. The width of the standard quilted fabric is 200 cm, which corresponds to the length of a standard double bed. And the length of the fabric should be purchased, depending on the width of the bed.
So, for example, for a bed 140 cm wide and 200 cm long, you should purchase fabric measuring 200 cm (width) x 170 cm (length).
For a bed 160 cm wide: 200 cm (width) x 190 cm (length).
For a bed 180 cm wide: 200 cm (width) x 210 cm (length).
•Fringe for edge processing. It is best to match the fringe to the color of the fabric. The amount of fringe directly depends on the amount of fabric purchased.
For a bed 140 cm wide: 7.5-8 m of fringe.
For a bed 160 cm wide: 8-8.5 m of fringe.
For a bed 180 cm wide: 8.5-9 m of fringe.
Dimensions are given with a margin of 0.5 m.
•Threads, scissors, etc.
•If the quilted fabric does not have a lining on the reverse side and the padding polyester is directly visible, then you will need to purchase fabric for the lining. The fabric for the lining can be any, for example, it can be calico. The main thing is that it does not shrink when washing. The size of the lining is equal to the size of the main fabric.
Let's proceed directly to sewing the bedspread. First you need to trim off the uneven edges.
To do this, trim off the uneven edge. Don't worry about shrinking your fabric. The width of the fabric is 200 cm - this is the usable area that will remain after trimming.
After trimming the edges, you need to process them using a machine.
To do this, take the edge of the quilted fabric and sew it with a zigzag along the edge of the fabric using a machine. If you have an overlocker, then it is better to do this with it.
If the fringe was sold to you not as a whole piece, but in parts, then you should sew it on a machine.
Place the two pieces of fringe with right sides facing each other.
Sew along the edge using a sewing machine.
It is best to stitch with a zigzag or overlock, then the seam will be strong and will not come apart.
The fabric and fringe are ready. All that remains is to sew the fringe to the fabric.
To do this, take the fabric, place it with the front side facing you, put the fringe on top of it, also with the front side up.
We sew on a machine with a regular straight stitch.
When sewing corners, simply wrap the fringe and hold it with your fingers so that it does not move, and also sew it with a straight stitch.
The bedspread is ready! You can make your bed with it. Also, a bedspread is a very good gift for a married couple.
