How to choose a bookmark color?
For Easter, purchase a red or burgundy jacquard ribbon. A white bookmark would be appropriate for Christmas or Epiphany, green for Spiritual Day or Trinity, and blue for the Feast of the Virgin Mary.
What to do if the store does not have the jacquard ribbon of the desired color?
Don’t be upset, it can be replaced with a satin ribbon 3–3.5 cm wide. To make the bookmark look elegant, look for a ribbon with lurex along the edges in gold or silver color.
How to choose beads to decorate a bookmark?
For work, it is better to use Czech-made beads. The selection of beads is carried out according to the main color of the jacquard ribbon and the contrasting tone of the pattern (usually a gold color) or the color of lurex on a satin ribbon (silver or gold).
To make such a bookmark with a cross and fringe from beads you will need:
• Jacquard ribbon 3.5 cm wide and 70 cm long.
• Monofilament.
• Beads “cut” for a cross in gold color – 8 pieces.
• Bordeaux and gold beads.
• Needle for embroidery with beads.
• Scissors.
• Matches.
Embroidery fringes
Use matches to singe the edges of the bookmark so that the tape does not fray.
Thread the needle. Fasten the working thread to the tape at the edge.
Insert the needle closer to the edge and sew on a gold-colored bead.
Bring the needle to the wrong side, sew on a bead, bring the needle in front of 1 bead on the front side.
Pass the needle through the sewn bead and grab the bead with the needle.
Bring the needle to the wrong side and grab the bead with the needle.
Bring the needle to the front side of the ribbon between the sewn beads.
Sew beads along the entire width of the bookmark. To ensure that the beads lie evenly, thread the needle through all the beads on the wrong side of the bookmark.
Also pass the needle through all the beads and on the front side.
Bring the needle out at the left edge of the ribbon.
String 7 burgundy beads and 1 gold bead on a thread.
Skip the gold bead, insert the needle in the opposite direction into the burgundy beads. To ensure that the fringe does not stick out, but lies flat, the monofilament does not need to be pulled too tight.
Insert the needle next to the thread at the beginning of the chain.
Step back a little from the sewn beads and repeat along the entire length of the ribbon.
Fasten the monofilament, pass the needle through the entire sewn row of beads, and cut the thread.
Also hide the beginning of the thread on the wrong side.
Cross stitch
Move 2.5 cm from the bottom edge of the tape, fasten the thread in the center.
Sew a gold bead on the front side.
Also sew a bead on the wrong side of the ribbon.
Embroider a cross with “cut” beads, duplicating the embroidery on the wrong side.
Pass the needle through 3 beads, put 3 beads on the needle.
Pull the needle out in the opposite direction, repeat on all sides of the cross.
Also make a cross on the wrong side of the ribbon.
Fasten the working threads, hide the ends, cut off the excess thread.
The bookmark is ready!
