Panel of beads on fabric "Ouroboros"
What is ouroboros? Ouroboros is one of the oldest symbols, meaning the infinity of existence: the alternation of creation and destruction, constant rebirth and death, the forward movement of the cosmos. The exact time and place of origin of this symbol cannot be established, but the name of the word comes from the Greek language.
The Ouroboros sign represents a snake coiled and biting its tail; it was widely used in religion, alchemy, mythology and psychology, but it is still used today (for example, it can be found in Tarot cards and on some coats of arms).
I decided to make a panel of fabric and beads with this sign. For work I needed:
- Light brown fabric;
- Pearl-colored beads (2 bags of different shades);
- Small beads in white, yellow, green, blue, beige, purple and orange colors;
- Large beads in red, pink and green colors;
- Beads in pink, beige, white and blue colors;
- The wire is thin;
- Thick cardboard or plastic;
- Blue PVC film;
- Needle;
- Polymer or instant glue;
- Scissors;
- Wire cutters;
- Pencil.
Getting started, cut out an even square from the fabric and then, attaching it to the paper, draw a sample with a pencil.
The inscription "Ouroboros" can be composed of Greek symbols:
We first decided to make the canvas from two layers of fabric, hoping that the frames would be made of a material strong enough to hold its shape. But during the work, durable material was not found in time, and we used plastic for the frames.
Taking a plastic sheet, we cut it into eight pieces of different lengths:
Next, we take self-adhesive PVC film and wrap it around four of the cut strips:
It is enough to paste each strip on the front side, after which the strips will need to be glued together in the shape of a square on the back side.
Next we proceed to bead embroidery. For sewing we use copper wire and a needle, and to embroider the image we used small beads of dark pearlescent color:
Three hoops with locks can be added to the neck of the symbolic snake. This will mean that the life cycle is not simple: all living things are born in pain and die in pain.
Having made the snake embroidery, we compose the inscription:
When embroidering with beads, in order to make the first seam, we insert a needle with wire, then we put the required amount of beads on it and, having calculated the distance, we pass the wire with the needle through the fabric and tie both ends of the wire at the back. If the wire runs out, you can tie a new one to it, only on the reverse side and carefully: the knots formed during tying can interfere with the movement of small beads, and if the wire is pulled too tightly, then a distortion of the rows of bead weaving and fabric will appear.
Next, we decided to use a file cover to make the craft more resistant to water and dirt (dust):
We hemmed the edges crafts that cover:
But this cover reduced the brightness of the craft and its beads faded, but we did not notice it right away.
When we had thick cardboard, we made a canvas out of it for the back of the craft:
We glued the craft to this canvas using reliable glue:
Next, we decided to glue plastic frames to the front and back sides of the craft:
After that, we decided to remove the file cover, and the panel became more beautiful:
After some time, we decided to replace the dark frame with a light one, made like embroidery, made of beads, but in the form of berries, leaves and flowers, also using the parallel weaving technique. It is not difficult to make such decorations, but you can learn about creating similar figures in the article about the “Heart” decoration made of beads on a stand:
Now our panel is ready:
