Room renovation with photo wallpaper
Today, undoubtedly, photo wallpapers are a very fashionable and stylish design for a bedroom. The technologies of the modern world have advanced so much in this area that instead of the old landscapes on thin fragile paper, a truly living image has come, sometimes striking in its beauty and realism. Now many photo wallpapers have a large choice not only plots, but also materials used, such as paper, non-woven fabric, vinyl and other textures that help display the structure of wood or brick and create the most realistic image of natural materials right in your home.
I would like to tell you about my small renovation, which ultimately made our whole family happy. The boring brown color was not at all inspiring, and I wanted to give our bedroom a little romance, light and bright colors, which so help improve our mood. So, let's go.
The first thing we started with was thoroughly cleaning the walls from numerous layers of old wallpaper. I can say that this process requires a lot of patience because even small particles need to be removed from the walls.To improve the removal of paper from the walls, you can use both ordinary water and special liquids. In our case, we intensively wet the walls with warm water, waited a little, and removed the old wallpaper with spatulas.
After much work, our walls looked simply terrible; traces of old plaster, which had never been brought to perfection, were visible. There is no way to do without leveling and this was the next stage.
To avoid fungus, mold and other troubles, the walls simply need to be primed. We used a deep penetration primer.
After all the walls and corners have already been carefully primed and dried, you can move on to the next stage: if necessary, plaster the walls, but if not (as in our version), it is enough to apply putty.
We used both classic putty and finishing putty to hide minor unevenness in the walls. All stages of preparation are indicated by the manufacturer on the packaging. In certain proportions, mix dry putty with cold water and mix thoroughly.
Next, following all the rules, apply the solution to the wall using a trowel and spatula, pressing on the spatula itself, accelerating the solution up and down, right and left, moving from one wall to another. You should know that for high-quality work, especially in the corners of the room, you need to use two spatulas of different sizes.
After all the walls were thoroughly plastered and dry, we began laying the floor.
Since it was covered with boards, we decided, before laying linoleum, to level it with hardboard. Of course, for high-quality leveling you need to use denser and thicker materials such as fiberboard or plywood, but for a young family with a limited budget, hardboard may also be suitable.We carefully nail it to the boards so that it does not “walk” under our feet.
The next step will be laying linoleum. The color chosen was beige with a simple pattern to make the room light. I can say that this is not a complicated process at all, the main thing is that the linoleum “does not feel cramped” and the edges are not pressed into the walls, otherwise instead of a flat floor you will get ugly waves.
After the work, the room began to look fresh, clean and bright. And we began to further improve our bedroom.
Pasting wallpaper and photo wallpaper. It was decided to glue the photo wallpaper on its larger side, which is adjacent to the window. To begin with, as written in the instructions, you should make markings on the wall: these are straight lines intersecting at one point in the middle.
They were measured using a construction ruler and level. A little effort and diligence and a piece of nature will already please the eye right in your home.
There were no problems with the choice of photo wallpaper; I wanted something delicate and beautiful, and what could be more beautiful than flowers? I want to say that the idea of the style and color scheme of the room arose precisely from the picture on the photo wallpaper.
We glue wallpaper. For better gluing, it is necessary to use a special glue suitable for a specific type of wallpaper. In our case, the wallpaper is non-woven based and, accordingly, the glue is selected for this type.
We glue the wallpaper without overlapping each other.
We started gluing from the door, since the door is level, and there was no need to draw the markings of the first sheet plumb.
Let's start with the ceiling. We chose the German “Format” tiles (“Rhapsody” pattern), which made it possible to quickly and effortlessly decorate the ceiling. The main advantage of this tile is that the seam is almost invisible and looks very beautiful.
The finishing touches to the renovation were work on the ceiling and floor skirting boards.
The baseboards and threshold were chosen to match the door in the room.
The result was a renovation that changed our bedroom beyond recognition. Judge for yourself.
