Salt dough cat
Good afternoon. I have recently become interested in crafts made from salt dough. A friend taught me how to make a cat from salt dough and an ordinary glass bottle. I will show and tell you what came of it.
Ingredients
To make a cat I needed:
- Glass bottle (narrow neck).
- Foil.
- Wire (which bends well).
- Salt dough (flour, water, salt, vegetable oil).
- Brush.
- Gouache.
- Varnish.
Making crafts from salt dough
I took a wire 20 centimeters long and folded it in half. Then I tore off a piece of foil and made a ball on the wire. The size of such a ball depends on the size of the bottle.
I covered the ball with dough. The result is a kind of “Lollipop” - this will be the head of a cat.
Then, one end of the wire was inserted into the bottle, and the other was wound in a spiral around the neck. Thus, I secured the ball.
As soon as I attached the head, I began to line the bottle with dough. I smoothed the joints between the pieces of dough with wet fingers (just don’t get too carried away with the water, just lightly moisten your fingertips with water). It didn’t turn out exactly, but then I corrected everything.
I made a cat's face.I slightly stretched out the dough in the place where the mustache will grow, the nose and mouth will be located. I molded triangles out of two small balls of dough and made ears out of them. I attached them and smoothed out the joints of the edges with wet fingers.
I didn’t forget to make the breast, and made legs from two sausages.
I made a tail at the back, although it turned out short. I rolled out the sausage in the shape of a carrot, making one end thicker and the other thinner, and glued the tail to its rightful place.
After I worked out all the details, I left the cat alone for 3 days to allow the dough to dry. You need to dry it at room temperature, since a friend warned me that if you dry it in the oven or near a radiator, the dough may crack, but I didn’t want that. After drying, I painted it as I wanted. I made the mustache from stamens from old artificial flowers, but you can also draw them or make them from something else. This is optional.
When the paint was dry, I coated the cat with two coats of varnish. This is how “Barsik” turned out.
Making such a cat turned out to be very interesting and not difficult, so I also made a kitten. I just designed it not much differently.
Try to make such a cat figurine. It will not take you a lot of time and money and you will spend your leisure time interestingly. Experiment with sizes and colors and you will get your own “Vasya” or “Marusya”, or maybe “Cleopatra”. Until next time.
