Thick yarn rug

Perhaps no home can be complete without a rug. Rugs are a cozy element of the interior that can be placed in the bathroom, hallway, or next to a bed or crib. Handmade rugs come up with very original ones. Here, for example, is a practical and not boring thick and warm rug made of soft yarn with several threads.

Let's start with practicality. First, a rug can be knitted from leftover yarn that has accumulated from various projects and is lying around. Secondly, by selecting the number of threads that make up the working thread for knitting, you can achieve the desired thickness of the product, which will be comfortable for bare feet, and will not wrinkle or curl, like a thin version of rugs. Thirdly, a lush rug can become not only a fragmentary floor covering, but also a soft seat for a stool or chair, or even a favorite place for your pet.
Now about the fun. By choosing the composition of the working thread for knitting, you can create an interesting range of colors and textures for the product, which will make the rug a real interior item.

For our model, we selected the remnants of yarn mainly in the black color variation. In this case, there is a textured mixed thread of cotton with viscose, a thread of wool roving, two pairs of twisted mixed threads of wool and acrylic, pink mohair thread and a thin strong synthetic thread, which should contribute to better wear resistance of the rug. There can be up to 10 threads in a working composite thread.

We collect all these threads into one and select a thick crochet hook. In our case, number 12. Knitting It should be moderately dense, but the rug should remain fluffy and soft. Hooks with a large number are now actively used for knitting with thick yarn, so it won’t be difficult to find one on sale.
The shape of the rug is classic, rectangular, so we start knitting with a chain of air loops, of which there should be almost as many as fit into the length of the desired size of the product.

Then we perform all the knitting loop in loop with double crochets, catching the working thread on both walls of the loop of the bottom row. For corner turns we use three loops in one of the bottom row. Having knitted 20-25 rows, we proceed to tying the rectangle. In our case, this is done with only black threads. We also change the hook to number 8 or 9, the contour rows should be tighter.

The binding can have from two to five rows, and accordingly the size of the rug will increase. We finish knitting by completing a turn of the binding along the rectangle. The main canvas is ready.

So that the rug does not seem monotonous and becomes more attractive, we can use it decor. To match the pink color of one of the warp threads, we use fairly thick acrylic yarn of a bright pink color. From it we knit flowers of a rounded flat shape of your choice. Several execution schemes are given below. In this case, hook No. 3.4 - 4 is suitable.

You can come up with a flower knitting pattern yourself.

In addition to flowers, we knit other details - leaves from green yarn. The simplest are oval pieces made from 4 rows of double crochets. You can come up with something more complicated, see diagrams.

We try on the details for the rug, find the composition that is most attractive. Next, it's a matter of needle and thread. We sew the parts to the rug with a strong thin thread using a small, frequent stitch.

We get a knitted applique.

This is the kind of lush and soft rug you will get as a result of your hard work. It will be pleasant and soft to stand on it with bare feet.

Knitting is not difficult, and the result will be very pleasing.
